i have a 13 week old staffy cross (with alsation i think).

my trouble with him is that when he messes in the night he baarks and howls and jumps up the door. i clean it up and then he is fine. I asked the RSPCA for help as thats where i got him and they said ignore him so i did. he still did it all night, from 10pm to 7am. it made me feel awful that i left him and all he had done was a tiny puddle of wee.
i have tried putting papaer down for him but he wont use it. other than this peoblem he is quite obedient and listens to commands.

can anyone out there please help
thanks

just like a lot of other puppies, he is pining and trying to get attention at the moment. Play with him before bedtime and make sure he is tired, and give him a few biscuits to settle him down. You could try leaving the radio on, or a ticking clock, hot water bottle and some nice cuddly toys.
I may be a bit daft but are you trying to take him out to have a wee before bed. If he is shouting from 10 till 7 then he hasnt got the hang of a bed time wee. If he goes on the paper during the day are you treating him so he knows it is ok to wee on paper. Are you also treating him if he has a "wee" outside and having a key word like wee as he does it then "good boy wee" when you treat him. Unfortunatly i spent so long taking my puppy on the paper to do a wee and saying "on your paper" she will now go for a wee outside when I say "on your paper". It is all regognition between weeing and words and treats.

I also agree with pmjblue that puppies pine. My husband had to sleep in the hall for a few nights and do all that pmjblue said and after a few nights of inching further away from the baby gate he made it upstairs and we had no further trouble.
PMSL winny - you made your husband sleep in the hall!

At 13 weeks he is only just able to go through the night, so try taking him out and staying out with him later, give him his last feed a bit earlier, and make it a milky one rather than solids. Confine him in a puppy pen or cage, or in a corner of the kitchen and give him some newspaper to go on if he has to. Set the alarm a bit earlier and get up to go out with him. If he is only weeing during the night, he is ok to leave, so don't go back to him if he is crying, or you will never stop him crying.

Personally I would use a cage and give him some toys and chews to keep him amused.

he goes out before bedtime, but the RSPCA told me that i should not give him attention for 5 minutes befor bedtime, i have tried the rest, apart from the hot water bottle incase he chews it, but i have left the tv on and the radio.

thanks for your help, i'll have to try the inching away from the door

thanks

not going to him makes him worse, he is ok once the wee has been cleaned and he doesnt make a sound, he is big for 13 weeks too so that makes it even worse, but thanks again and i will try all your suggestions, but i dont hold much hope,

more sleepless nights for me
We also put paper in a large litter tray so the puddle did not run all over the floor and get paddled through. I wonder if he is either panicking because he thinks it is naughty to wee inside. (hense the trying to teach him it ok to go on the paper or in the tray) or if you usually clear any puddles up asap he might be simply letting you know you need to clean up. You could try putting paper in the tray outside too so he can wee in it outside which again re affirms it is ok. If he is ok till he wees then maybe you wont have to sleep in the hall.

Cages are good too as if you make them homely they see them as safe and nice places to be ours go in them when it is fire work night and the panic lifts instantly.

Sorry lankeela but what does PMSL mean?

Thanks. We still married too!!
That was funny reading!!!! Here is another reason for cages.........if he is a clean pup..then he shouldnt wee in his bed......(i say shouldnt) as most pups wont.As long as he has his tea around 5-6 ish then he should of been to the loo before his bedtime. If it is just weeing hes doing then like answers before..........take him out and stay with him untill hes done one and hopefully he should be ok.He IS only young right now..........another couple of months should see you right.Regards
thanks lankeela - I'll remember that one!
