Hi can anyone help, i'm looking for wording to go on an evening invitation for a wedding, but need to let people know that there won't be any food and it's a paying bar, but don't want to sound like a miser!! Weddings are soooo expensive!!!!!!!!!!

where is the evening being held?

The evening reception is being held at a social club, we're having a formal reception first [hot buffet] but then there are people we would like to invite later on but not for food.
if you are going to ask people to rsvp then just tell them when they phone you .. i agree its hard though! You could just be cheeky and say we invite you ... blahdey blah ... drinks will be available to purchase
I wouldn't worry too much as I'd never expect free drinks to be available at an evening do or food.

Depending on how many people you are having and depending on numbers you could maybe organise a few bottles of cheap bubbly and some snack like nibbles such as crisps, cheese straws etc... and just pop on the invite that a glass of bubbly and nibbles will be available for evening guests but that a paying bar will be there so give the gentle suggestion they won't be getting a free bar or food.
No-one will be expecting free drinks, but probably a buffet. So I would definately find someway of letting them know that no food will be available, as some may rely on food when drinking alcohol, and can therefore eat beforehand. Some social clubs sell hot food, and all will let people take their own. As long as people know, everyone will enjoy the pary. No-one is going to think you're a miser, I think most people appreciate that things are expensive and will admire you for having a party anyway, rather than not bothering cos you can't go the whole hog. Have a lovely wedding.
Don't worry, I don't think anyone would expect free drink, and a pay bar is the norm for most evening do's.

I can't think of wording that would be suitable for mentioning the no buffet on the invitation, but I would maybe say anything about it on the invitations and just mention it in passing to peple when you speak to them, and say to the rest of your family / close friends to pass on that message too.
And anyway, people will understand that you're already footing out a forutne for the rest of the wedding anyway so don't be silly, if they are true friends they will enjoy being with you to celebrate your special day.
Good luck for your big day!
I agree with everyone. I would never expect to get free drinks at a do and as for the food, nip to your local supermarket for a few bags of nuts and some party bowls and just put one on each table. It will cost less than a tenner but will keep people happy. Relax and enjoy your wedding!!!

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions, makes me feel a bit happier...and less stressed........ think i'm going for ''an informal evening celebration'' for the invite and also word of mouth about it all.

Thanks
