hello i have a narrow boat and am thinking of putting a sterling battery management system on where hooked up to a landline so powers no problem it would be useful to keep the batterys topped up as running the engine for short periods dosent keep them at 100percent and as i generally forget to turn something off i keep draining them any thoughts anyone my wife believes that a better investment would be new batteries as the ones we have are over 2years old but surely keep draining them cant be helpful either any help will be grateful cheers

Start from scratch! Your best bet would be to buy two new leisure batteries and a good quality Battery management system that will allow charging both from mains and from the engine (split charging). Oh and don't forget to turn things off!!!! Remember to buy leisure batteries and not car starter batteries as they have different plate designs and don't do each other's jobs very well. Also if you've got big batteries make sure the charger can properly charge them.
