Putting this here as B&S is most popular..it's also in the 'proper' section so please don't tell me off....

Well I am seething. My 9 year old daughter went out for
the day to a fair with her friend and her family ~ and came back with a goldfish.

I don't have a bowl or tank, so have to go to a pet shop tomorrow & find a suitable home to purchase! in the meantime he is in a clear plastic bowl. I am hoping he lasts the night, as I don't have anything to oxygenate the water. I am furious because I hate fairgrounds trading fish..it is so irresponsible. Any tips gratefully received :o)

That's what I thought ruge ~ but she won this one by throwing balls into the little glass bowls. I remember them well, and thought it had been outlawed :o(

I have already told her friends mum I aint pleased!
She can only win a fish if she's with someoene over sixteen. There were plans to outlaw out the practise, but the Labour government bottled it and came up with that solution. I hope I read the the info correctly,I'll try and find the site again
Send him to the big gold fish bowl in the sky via the toilet

crilly I only planned to do that if he died..although Mr P just informed me that it isn't the done thing anymore, and you should dispose of them via the waste bin ;o)
if you need to store it and not in the bag...you must have a large bowl or something??

or perhaps the sink?

or...as crilly says....throw it down the bog?

I had thought of that, Wardy ~ but daughter would be heartbroken. I already feel bad for having a bit of a go at her when she brought it home. Being a parent really sucks sometimes!

I shall investigate your idea though ~ thank you, Captain :o)

Doesn't solve your problem though. I don't think your 9yr old daughter would appreciate it being flushed away, and i'm sure the goldfish wouldn't

At the moment we have improvised with the food mixer bowl (no smart assed replies to that, please).

I am sure all will look brighter in the morning..unless he pops his clogs in the meantime.

Thanks for that, Rock 'n' Roll ~ I had to laugh at this part:

'The Telegraph says that Hewitt bowed to pressures from fellow ministers who feared that introducing the ban on goldfish as prizes would expose the Government to accusations of running a nanny state. '

Isn't that shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted? ;o)
dont show them your soft side WM!! "they" will attack it!!!
It could be a girl gold fish and if there is a god it will be pregnant and have loads of little goldfish's for you in the morning since you love them so much ;-)
i dont know if i have dreamt this but....are fish both the male and female sex in one? a bit of a glamourised ladyboy?
Question Author
Yes, I do love them. I used to own goldfish (pl) in a proper tank with all the care they are supposed to have.

I wasn't prepared for this one arriving at 7.00pm, all the pet stores closed. I may not want this fish that much, but I certainly am not prepared to kill it...;o)
Hiya pippa

providing the goldy survives the night through stress and shock he'll be OK in a bowl until you can a bowl.........however......

Goldfish, can live for 30 years (yep..30 years!) and really need a minimum of 10gal per fish, sticking him in a bowl- even though meant well- is just a cruel as a clear plastic bag.

And as you obviously no doubt now know, it's not a good idea to flush it down the loo should he die.
Oh rofl pippa, you've added a new post after my ramblings- talk about teaching ya grandma how to suck eggs!
awww..........i want 3 stars!! :~((

Thanks BOO :o)

Yeah I know bowls are bad ~ I used to own Shubunkins and they lived in a big tank..I only gave them away as I was moving house. They went to the lady next door who had a pond, which is of course the best place for them really! I didn't know they could live that long though ;o)

I shall be looking for a tank for it tomorrow...
