My E320 CDi belches smoke like an old bus. It's only done 60,000 miles and is 30 months old.Its worse when I pull away,it'sbeen fully serviced and Merc tell me its acceptable. It's embarrasing to leave a cloud of black soot/dust behind me.I can tell it's not engine oil more like unburned fuel, I have been backwards and forwards to the dealer and been promised they will sort it out,any ideas before I smog us all out?

I wonder why I bother..I say." I can tell it's not engine oil" so the answer comes back.."black smoke - unburnt fuel so it's not engine oil" doh !
Harley - if that's the thanks we get why should *we* bother?
Harley, what you trying to tell us. gmc2002 told you that black smoke is unburnt FUEL, not oil. Does your German truck use oil for fuel?
In my opinion (not a mechanic though) it's probably the injectors are all crudded up and need cleaning. At 60 000 miles on a diesel that's not a surprise at all. Motor factors sell stuff to put in your fuel to clean it as you drive, but personally I'd go to a garage and have them give the injectors a good blow through ' but not your current dealer as they sounds pants me to.Try an independent fuel injection specialist.
Had this problem; cleaned the air filter; perfect.
