I have bad credit, including debt to Halifax bank. I need to open a basic account, can anyone recommend a decent one?

I use Co-Op Cashminder. You get an electron card, but no overdraft or checkbook, and you can operate DDs etc from it.
Did I say no checkbook? I'm not American, honest. I meant 'no chequebook'.
Hope this link works - it's to an online account comparison at moneysupermarket.com showing the best basic current accounts.

Hi, start off with a HSBC Basic bank account back in Jan 2005, and after less than a year i was offer and credit card and a loan with them. The loan helped me paid off the last of my creditors and the credit card is helping my credit record. I'm not saying you will get all this, but i found them to be good for me.
