We removed a radiator to paint a wall then replaced it. Later our ageing Glowworm Fuel Saver F boiler started making lots of banging noises and now the pilot light has gone out. How can we re-light it? - there doesn't appear to be a way to do it manually

Sounds like you have an air-lock and you might need to bleed the radiators - use a small brass key you can get from a hardware store. Let the air out until the radiator refills and water starts comming out. Then close it tight again. Re-lighting the pilot should be by spark from pressing a button in and holding it there for a count of 20. Sorry, I have no idea how to re-light on if it hasn't got an ignition switch. A good heating engineer should be able to fix it.
Good luck
