Horse racing again - a little 'inside info. My boss was advised by a friend that a local horse was due to win a particular race, for which it was trained specifically. I put a bet on for him, odds of 8/1, and I put a fiver on myself as well. The horse romped it at 9/1, and my boss and I got �50.00 each. Not a fortune you might think, but this was nearly 20 years ago, my girlfriend (now my wife) was a penniless student, and I was deeply in hock supporting us both, so �50 was a fortune to us! I handed it over and told my girlfriend to blow it on something frivolous for herself. As i recall, she did just that, we managed to eat cooked meals all the next week, and pay the gas bill on time. Luxury!

Put money into an ISA.
It takes 5 minutes to do online (=easy), is endorsed by the government (=legitimate), and has guaranteed interest payments (=surefire) - i think SMILE do about 5% at the moment.
Here's two ideas i've had which could make money (though i can't say for sure as i've not got around to completing either project yet) 1) pick up some computer parts on ebay for next to nothing, bolt them together as an internet-ready PC then sell in the local newspaper shop for �99.99 which is a bloody bargain to someone who isn't in the know and has only seen one for "little Jimmy" at PC World for a grand and comes with a whole load of stuff you don't need/understand
2) become a distributer/re-seller for something, anything on the web by creating a website to promote a product (say paintings by local artists) whereby you claim a commission on anything you sell - as learned internet users will know, website creation is simple, and free if you look in the right places. You will therefore have no capital outlay as you are merely a re-seller of someone elses goods, claiming you percentage for any sales only (packaging is absorbed by the sale itself)

You could learn to work in the building trade, as our schools now teach kids (the ones that show an interest in working with there hands rather than there minds) computer skills instead of an honest trade like carpentry plumbing brickwork ect there is a shortage of skilled men it is even apparent now and these trades are starting to not only pick and chose there work but to charge what they want loads of money!!!!!
