What material are frying pans generally made out of?

It varies - usual suspects are aluminium or 18/10 stainless steel - both with or without enamelled finishes or PTFE (Teflon) coatings. Sometimes cast iron is used but many people refer to those as skillets rather than frying pans.
The best ones are made from cast iron... generally, they're made from steel - stainless, non-stick and useless.
