I'm in idiot mode again. Trying to set up my Canon printer to print from laptop . I found a helpful video online, but can't find the WPS button on the printer. Where is it located, and what does it look like, please? I would prefer to connect it via wifi rather than USB as the printer is going to be located in a different room from the laptop.

Does this help:

You'll need to copy and paste all of that link ..... it's not displayed correctly in my first post.

I thought it was going so well, but seemed to be taking ages at step 3 so I gave up. Am I being too impatient?

These things can take a while.

Be patient and go and make yourself a cuppa  :)

I also thought I'd try the Windows method, but don't have the appropriate icon on the taskbar. What is it called, so that I can search for it?

Question Author

I can't make a cuppa and keep the button pressed at the same time, Gizmonster!

You mention the WPS button on the printer - the WPS button is on the router, not the printer

My link (it does work) shows the button on the printer that has to be pressed to connect by WPS

Thanks everyone. Of course I got my 'w's confused, I meant WPS not wifi button. Blame the toothache.

I'm now connected. After a minute or so the dispaly flashed E 3 2, and I was about to bite the bullet and try the Troubleshooting process as recommended, but then the correct icons flashed up on the display and it works perfctly. I will never understand computers. But as long as I can do things without understanding them, that's all that matters. Again, many thanks for your patience.

Glad you are sorted 🙂

Not connected to this thread really but similar, My wife and I bought new fitbits last year and we were told to press a buttton if the connection didnt work when setting them up, it took ages to find the little button on the end of the usb cable where it went into laptop. At least we know now
