Err indoors got a load of trap from 3 teenage *** riding on the pavement whilst she was walking the dogs. "Get out of the effing way etc" - wish I was there I'd kicked the rissoles clean off their bikes. Makes my blood boil.

Sorry Khandro at 11:01 that is a silly post - they shouldn't even be on the pavement in the first place ! I've just got back in for a dog walk and twice we had to avoid lycra clad and helmeted morons speeding along the pavement as if they had the divine right ! I was absolutely chuffed to bits when an irate Dad with his little boy in tow told them off as they sped past !...

Kardashev- //I deliberately get in their way, especially the ones that ring a bell to let me know they are coming! very helpful!//

Ten when you're hurt in an accident, it'll only be one person's fault, and it isn't the cyclist.
Our roads are barely fit for driving motor-vehicles on, let alone bicycles. And ditto our paths and pavements for pedestrians...
Someone, somewhere needs to address this issue 'properly' rather than inconveniencing all and sundry by the inappropriate placing of cycle lanes.

\\ This world would be a better place if more people tried (just tried) to look at things from the perspective of other people //
This also applies to cyclists,Khandro.
Can you explain why, when cycling clubs go out they ride along three abreast, taking up the same room as an articulated lorry? Not only that the outside person at the back, when he, and it's usually a he, hears a vehicle behind him, moves over the white line to make it even more difficult to pass.

This thread isn't about pedestrians though SB, it's about the very real nuisance of cyclists riding on pavements as if they have the divine right - start your own thread maybe ???

Rofl
Who died and left you in charge ?
You the chief mod now ?
Thread not even yours !
Get over yourself
Could say the same about your reply on a thread the other day that was slagging Sqad off
Start one of your own and practice what you preach
vulcan, I've ridden (and raced) thousands of miles on bikes, a lot of it with clubs, & never seen such behaviour.

Having said that, if it is a long group say 20, two abreast, that's 10 bike lengths +, and 20 lives to your one, you may have to treat it as if it were a long vehicle (like a lorry & trailer) & wait until you have a clear distance ahead to overtake.

Remember, patience is a virtue :0)
Feel better now you have got that off your chest SB - good ....
I agree Khandro, if the cyclists looked at the perspective of the pedestrians and stayed off the pavements, the world would indeed be a much better place !
By the same stretch Shirley, if drivers treated cyclists like other vehicles rather than nuisances, then they wouldn't feel so unsafe on the roads that they feel the need to drive on the pavements.
That doesn't concern me Mozz, I am a pedestrian and I am more concerned about dangerous, speeding cyclists whizzing past unsuspecting people on pavements, which this thread is about.

Immensely Lol !
It works better when the pot and the kettle are of exactly the same hue
Eh ?? Don't you have a covid thread to pontificate on ??
Mozz: "By the same stretch Shirley, if drivers treated cyclists like other vehicles rather than nuisances, then they wouldn't feel so unsafe on the roads that they feel the need to drive on the pavements. " - in my experience most motorists do treat them with respect when they using the road correctly as defined by the highway code. Many cyclists do of course do that but the sort that will ride on the pavement are invariably the sort that will jump red lights and disobey other rules of the road.

Road traffic accidents before inconveniencing Shirley. Right, got it.

And surely the potential reason they are on the pavement is completely relevant to the thread topic, or are you only interested in opinions that agree with you?

I agree, the few bad apples are the ones who spoil things for all, both motorists and cyclists.
Lots of drama about

I can see the events being a nuisance or an annoyance but how often do they cause serious injury ?

A quick search says that 531 pedestrians were struck by cyclists in 2017

On the flip side 140 cyclists were killed last year
No figures for children on bikes hit by cars but then most of us would want to see our kids or nieces nephews and grandchildren riding their bikes on the pavement would we not ?

Another search said that on average 8000 people a year are bitten by dogs in the uk

The OP seems to be more about unruly teenagers who ride bikes as opposed to actual cyclists

Maybe some need to get a sense of perspective and ease off on the dramatics
Well, well, well......That *is* interesting.... :o)

That is it in a nutshell

Did anyone actually watch the link I posted ?
The one where the coked up driver hit the 6 year old child in the cycle lane at 60 mph in a 30 zone?
Thankfully an extremely rare event
Does not mean that all
motorists are drugged up
in the same way that not everyone on a bike is a menace
Oh I see you already are pontificating on another covid thread SB ..
SB - always lots of drama about when you are posting ..
Shirley- //Oh I see you already are pontificating on another covid thread SB//

Which has zero to do with this thread. Might be an idea to keep of topic yourself before you berate others for the same.
