^^^ well that's helpful isn't it...…..?

Chronic describes something persisting for a long time and done or suffered regularly. If cocaine is taken socially once or twice a month and this has been happening for a couple of months then that is not chronic. If however you have been taking it around once or twice a week for three or four years, then I would say that's perhaps chronic use and you should perhaps seek help to come off it.
when you burn a hole in your septum (I am so against all drug taking )
I would say that if someone's first thought on waking was to avail themselves of any drug, that would be chronic. If, however, they are able to get along fine without it, taking it recreationally once or twice a week, then, no - not chronic. Probably also depends upon just how much one takes in any one 'hit'.
I am not sure why the word is so important to you?
^^^ Homework?
The word chronic in medical parlage means irreversible but in non medical circles means something entirely different.
I would presume that chronic means the same as habitual and addicted to in lay terms.
Addiction is not assessed in days or weeks and has a special meaning which I think might better dis unused under a se thread as it has been discussed so many times on AB.
