I want to buy my dad a Tom Tom navigator for Christmas but need to know something before I spend out! Perhaps someone can tell me if I need to buy the maps separately, or if I just buy the machine and off I go! Perhaps it comes with the UK maps built in and you have to buy other countries?!

Thanks in advance :D

Thanks!

I just wanted to make sure before I spend some money :)

I think my dad will use it just to go to the shops and back!!!!!

An excellent buy, they say switch on and go and its that easy, nothing else to buy.
Try Currys, they are doing 50 off at the moment. If you order on line, when you get to the checkout enter"Curry20" in the promotion box and they will knock of another 20
Dad will enjoy it.
Mine came with the UK maps but I think there is a newer model that has european maps. I find it hard finding my way around this country so I got the basic one. Very good though!

Bought a TomTom last week and very happy with it

I can now get to gigs without getting lost and stressed!

I have had my TTG for about 8 months and I am very pleased with it. I did buy a seperate card with just France on and used it over there a few weeks ago. It was brilliant and included even the very small country lanes.
If I had any complaint with it, it would be the cost of the extra maps, (USA is around 100) and it sometime struggles to get a signal in some parts of central London. I also registered my purchase online with the promise of a free alternative colour suround, but never received it.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

We went out and got one today as a local store was doing an offer (they do seem popular at the moment!) ... so I guess we'll be out for a drive on Christmas day!!!

Cheers!

if you go to :

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/uksafetycameras.php

you can download a free database of the 'safety cameras' around the UK... updated monthly, you can set the safety cameras up as 'points of interest' in your TomTom, and you can set it to warn you when you are approaching a camera spot. VERY useful!
