Can any of you crafters and makers suggest suitable paints for using on wooden toys? I dont know the modern requirements to make them suitable for children. i would have used acrylics with varnish finish, but it feels a bit old fashioned. Whats new?

Making as a gift for a toddler and and would like to know what paint to use to be hard wearing and safe.
Rustoleum say that they Painters Touch range is toy safe. My advice to you would be to go to somewhere like B and Q and read the can. Rustoleum also do a child safe sealer Amazon.com User Recommendation

Thank you woofgang, i have been reading the cans in the shop and online but not knowing what I'm looking for really. Hoping not to get sucked into buy high price high branded paints when regular stuff might be safe too.
The sealer link is very useful, its possible I guess that the paint is less important if its coated with an appropriate sealer.

Maydup if you are worrying about children licking paints, you will not find something that will say on tin it's 100% safe, only thing I can think of is a dual pack floor varnish.
maydup, even if sealed the paint still needs to be non toxic.
