Both my Sons have the short version of the birth certificates, and I cannot remember, or see why they were not given the longer version when they were both registered, how do they go about getting the longer version now, please.

Thank you
Get it from the Gov site - don't pay twice the price on the link above https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate
At one time if you registered the birth at the hospital then you were given the short version but if you went to the registry office then you got the long version. Not sure if that is the same these days. Probably only get the long one now if you pay extra for it.
I have moved this thread into the category "How it Works".
I went down the route in 237j's link but it seemed to be for getting copies of old certficates from many years ago for family tree purposes
and I couldn't get mine as itw a stoo recent (even though i'm getting on in life).
I eventually got mine via my local city council's website- there was a link on there, and it was free- the nominal fee was refunded- I think because it was my own not for family tree purposes
odd
years ago they said you didnt need one ( no computer footprint)
and um now you do ( presumably fournd a way to computerise the records)
