Is this something that you'd go to the police about or would you consider it a compliment ?

Well many moons ago I used to get a lot of them and they made my day. Stupid woman.
This has also been posted in news.

Yes, I would speak to the police if I started to feel harassed and intimidated on a daily basis. This was daily...not the odd wolf whistle, which in fairness can be quite flattering.
I think many would see it as a compliment, however I think these builders took it a little too far and were most likely harassing her, she most likely felt intimidated and after being confronted face to face by one of them, she most likely felt threatened. A little respect costs nothing!
Jenny...did you get them everyday on your way to work? Did the men doing it start approaching you and invading your space?
Well "most likely" anyway!! ;-)
No Ummmm - just random whistles - mind you I was lucky to hear any of them since whistles are high pitched and I don't have any high pitch hearing but the oul hearing aid musta worked a treat.
Whistles and 'Hello Darlin' are one thing - blocking your way on the pavement another.
Gawd it's a good job those office gals didn't complain when they had to come on to the ( factory ) shop floor for any reason, all the blokes would have been sacked.
Office floor with people working in the same firm is completely different to complete strangers.

I can only speak as I find but some men are quite intimidating.
Wonder if I would get any wolf whistles if I walked past a building site? Once upon a time it would make my day, but sadly those days are in the past lol
how many fathers here would encourage their daughters to just grin and bear this?, I know I would not tell my daughter to ignore anything that was affecting her.
Got many a date as an apprentice, wolf whistling at the office gals certainly paid off.
But this isn't about the odd wolf whistle that makes someones day. It's about daily wolf whistles and confrontation that are ruining her day.

I am reminded of a story that the actress Eileen Atkins told once on Parkinson.

She went shopping at Harrods, as one does and just as she was approaching the door, three men up on the scaffold gave her an enormous wolf whistle, together with some rather salty remarks. She was horrified and embarrassed and resolved to get her own back. So, later that morning, as she left the store, she shouted up to the men some very choice comments regarding the smallness of their reproductive organs and what they could do with them, and then stalked off down the road.

She had forgotten, of course, that Harrods is renown for having many entrances and the one by which she left, was not the one by which she had entered.

Easy mistake to make !

i may regret this - but please explain
It's been a few years since I attracted wolf whistles, then again they are so passé now...who cares.
Before I have been wolf whistled at and they shouted 'Get ur *** out'. I was a annoyed by this. The fact that fat greecy men can shout at me with such disrespect. I can't blame her for pressing charges
Bazile, //i may regret this - but please explain// she was shouting up at the workmen at the wrong entrance, hence, the wrong workmen!

ah right , there were workmen at other entrances .

Hope they complained and she was banned from the store
