i have a friend who is doing up her house. She needed joiner so i had a word with a joiner friend and he agreed to do the work. My friend asked how much he charged per hour and she was happy with the amount.
She now wants some tiling doing. Mr O is a whizz at tiling and said he would do it if the price was right. i mentioned it to my friend yesterday and told her he would do it for suitable remuneration. She said she would make sure he was given suitable remuneration.
I've found out she has told another friend that Mr O is going to do her tiling for a free lunch and unlimited cuppas! *** cheek!
How do I sort this out?

Simply get Mr. O to agree terms before starting. What your friend told some other mutual friend is of no consequence.
How do I sort this out?

He just doesn't do it. It really is as simple as that.

I think I will have to bite the bullet and ask her how much she was thinking of paying him.
Do you not work on 'favours' with friends?
Question Author
'favours with friends' sounds to me like an offer for Mr O to bonk her!
What's the phrase, 'Friends with benefits'? ☺
How do you know that she isn't just saying that to make the other friend a little jealous. Has your friend actually said to you or your OH that she isn't paying?

I've been guilty of this myself in the past, I pretend that someone is doing it for free but still pay them.
Lol...no.

We do work for friends and they return the favour as and when. My mate is coming to do my garden next week.....free...lunch, a few beers, and the pleasure of my company :-)

I looked after him when he needed it.....return the favour.
I had to pay my friend the builder....mates rates....but money.....he wasn't the least bit interested in the crocheted slippers and balaclava I offered in exchange for the work..... :-(
ummmm: That works for you and does for so many but it can be difficult if you're the one always offering to help for free and never get anything back. I've helped a friend out on numerous occasions and not once has she offered in away way to help when I've needed it. To be honest a part of me feels that she hasn't offered because she's scared that she will let me down. Hey ho!
gness: You should of paid him then worn said balaclava and mugged him and got your money back. That would teach him :)

This friend has no free time to return favours. I have done things for her myself in the past and she has never repaid me. I am not bothered, as I did what i did and expected nothing in return
I think that most of us here do things for friends without expecting anything in return. However deep down we all hope that if we needed a favour in return it wouldn't be followed by an invoice.
Diz....have you seen the size of me.....when I go mugging I have to carry a little step ladder and ask folk to stand still whilst I set it up........a dead giveaway...... ☺
I'm probably not the best to reply. My mates are tradesmen. My female friends repay (his kindness) usually by babysitting/house sitting/cat sitting...
Gness: don't let your size be underestimated by anyone. He has plums, you have the power to disable his plums....

I once went for a man's plums. He was one of a group of four Spaniards who were in the process of mugging me and my friend. This particular mugger was standing with legs akimbo so I went for it. It was a bad move as I was wearing flip flops at the time. I missed all the meaty bits and struck bone, breaking my big toe in the process. I was hopping about on one leg, swearing, when he calmly reached over and removed my bag from my shoulder
mrs_overall: You win some, you lose some. See had it been me I'd of gone in with a fist, a lot more precise and you could get a grap and twist in there as well.
Question Author
Dizmo, had I been less inebriated i would have done things very differently and the mugger I am sure would now be speaking Spanish in a falsetto voice
