The planner? So not the guy who put it all in physically?
No, no tip for the planner.
No !!
Absolutely not!!!!

thanks for that - this guy orders the stuff - then my kitchen fitter will install it. So I do tip him?
I'd tip the guy that installs it, definitely not the 'planner'.

Yepp, give the fitter a tip.
If the fitter is an employee of the fitting company and does a good job, a tip would be nice. If he's the owner, then no.

okay doke - again how much of a tip. I don't have a quote from kitchen fitter so what should I give him. like to do the right thing.
Why tip the fitter? Surely he's being paid for it.

No one tips me for doing my job.
I wouldn't - certainly not the planner. I don't think I'd tip the kitchen fitter either, he's only doing his job - you can ply him with tea and sandwiches while he's doing the work. These days I don't tip anyone just for doing their job, only if they have done something especially helpful. I wouldn't dream of tipping the bloke who does work in the house for me - I make him tea, then pay his invoice.

cloverjo - he is a handyman as such and works for himself - no company etc - just a bunch of lads working together including my nephew who will be doing the plumbing - mind you won't be much as it is all there from the old kitchen.

Agree with Hopkirk, ^^^ daft idea!
I wouldn't tip the fitter either. Tea and a smile would suffice.
Why tip anyone, for the same reason. Unfortunately it is a social pressure to do so for some occupations, which allow the employers to keep the job low paid.
conne, if you really feel you need to tip the self-employed fitter, only do if it he's done a good job, you've checked all the drawers work, etc. - if then you are happy, give him a tenner for a drink - nothing more. It also depends how much he's charging you - if his quote for the work is a lot, I wouldn't add anything extra. It's a moral pressure you're feeling, you don't have to do it. It's his job.

thanks for all your answers.
I never pay tradesmen (or women) for a job they're getting paid to do either.
...same as I don't tip the dustmen or the postman at Christmas. We rarely see the same people twice, so there's no "regular".
Question Author
Unfortunately I do for instance my painter - he will give me a price - some years back - I usually upped it by about £50.

same as my boiler service man - up him about a £10 more. Anyway kitchen fitter is doing over and above as converting a wall dresser into part of the kitchen so I will wait and see - the oul gut feeling.

I tip my window cleaners at Xmas - a Tenner each there is 3 of them. no bin men etc - don't know any of them.
