Is freeview worth getting. We have the entertainment Sky package but we now find it boring and repetitive and are thinking of giving it up

I like Freeview as you only have to pay for the box and thats it. You get all your terrestrial channels plus ITV2, ITV3, BBC3, BBC4, UK tv history, E4, Sky news and more. Not bad for a one off payment. Dont get the top-up box. I bought that and was paying 8.00 a month, and found that i was watching the freeview channels more. Well worth it!
i agree! freeview is great as a one off payment. i had freeview and then decided to have cable put in! the only thing i would miss is the comedy on uk gold but apart from that freeview was just as good and cheaper!

Yeah I agree i have freeview and its rare that im stuck for something to watch. The extra bbc channels havr some good comedy shows too.

It's worth getting just for the History Channel alone, but as has already been said you have access to the other BBC Channels as well. A good buy.
be sure you can receive it tho before you purchase as my area cant yet receive it !
When you give up Sky, the box is yours so you have a lot of free channels without buying Freeview.  Check whether Freeview has anything extra (like the History Channel) that you particularly want.
It depends.  For me it is not worth getting as our transmitter does not transmit digitally!
If you have an analogue widescreen set , then the set top box is essential anyway in order to view any widescreen transmission in true 16:9 format. (widescreen). The extra channels are just the icing on the cake!

I've just switched over from cable to Freeview but found on first installation that I couldn't get any ITV, C4 or C5 channels. Had to buy a separate signal booster to pick these up but even now the signal strength is poor. Might be looking at a new rooftop aerial; so much for saving money!

In error I said History Channel, what I should have said was UKtv History. Thanks to Grunty for the reminder.
Ask your neighbours if they have it. If they can pick it up, you should too. If you can, it is worth the 40.00 or so for it.

Maybe on the web you can find if your area receives the signal.

If it does, it's a no brainer. Even without the other channels, the digital reception and interactive features are brilliant.

Plus you get lots of nice music vids. I think its great.

May need a special aerial too.

Well worth getting freeview box . The quality of the picture makes it worth having i have a box on all tv's in the house.
UKTV History is my favourite.. I wish we had it when I was at school... It all falls into place now! Plus ITV2 and BBC3 + 4 are well worth it. QVC is compulsive, cringe-making telly.. to see out of work presenters speaking for 2 hours about a cubic zirconia ring is unreal :)

Oh no! I'm not the only viewer of QVC! lol. It is so funny to watch.

Want ORANGE JUICE???????? Fed up with slamming oranges repeatedly off your face to get the juice out? Use supersqueezy! Only 35 and it fits neatly under your sink!

I watched QVC for a while but the presenters were too scary - and what's even worse I was getting hooked. I actually started to believe that  I couldn't live without the items honkytonkman and MargeB have mentioned!!
When I searched the net for a freeview box, there were several sites I found that used your postcode to see if you could receive a signal which was good. The only thing I find slightly annoying is the fact that is someone is watching CH4 in the room adjacent and I'm watching it as well, the box shows it about 3 seconds later than normal TV. But that just bugs me because my brothers have the other TV on so loud! Other than that, freeview is a godsend, I love it!
