Just been on ITV about school cars blocking driveways. There is a sign opposite from where I park saying school pick up cars will be clamped .People insist on parking there. I live in a cul de sac but we are all courteous of each other where to park. Made me feel a bit guilty when I park outside a house when picking my grandson up but I am only there about 10 minutes. We have free 30 minutes parking with a disc I get from school but it is only a small car park and is mostly full .

The house we've just moved into is on the edge of a hamlet and it seems to be a drop off point for the school coach to drop kids and then their parents ferry them home to the outlying hamlets and for about 15 minutes twice a day it goes from being totally deserted to being like a crazy circus of cars and vans, but it's only for a few minutes a day so what's the problem? You can't just go around clamping cars willy nilly either, that's totally unreasonable if soemone's only there for five minutes. I wouldn't worry about it.

Good reply Sharingam. I think this happens a lot when houses are next to the school.
it might be a problem for some if they can't get their car out because someone is parked across their driveway. even for a few minutes.
Quite often people don't just park for 10 minutes.
Clamping though seems an odd approach. Better surely to issue sharply worded warning notices to regular offenders, placed under the windscreen wipers. Most people will respond to that whereas clamping makes a victim of the offender (and also does the opposite of what you want - i.e. get rid of the wretched vehicle asap!)
This is why we picked the school 400 yards from our home.
I didnt want to be that frantic person looking for a place to park. As schools tend to be in resedential areas and most parents drive, I am walking the school run every time! Plus its a good school too.
There's a school on my road and the way some parents park is flipping dangerous, they drag young kids out of the car into the road instead of the pavement, block drives and park so close to a traffic island that on occasion cars have had to drive on the wrong side of the road to get round.
My friend lives about 600 yards from the school she works in and she drives everyday!
We live about ¾ of a mile from a local school which is on a busy road used by buses and HGVs. At school times it is quicker to turn right and drive the long way round through the village then try and drive the short way by the school. A friend of mine who lives near the other local school gets up early to partk his car on the road or the school run parkers make it virtually impossible to get out of his drive.
The problem is that an awful number of people have become lazy & get as close to the school as they can, what's wrong with parking a couple of streets away & doing a bit of walking. I think some folks have forgotten what legs & feet are designed for.

Near us in the afternoon the cars arrive about 30 minutes before the primary school finishes as they all seem to want to be as close as possible to the school. As the road is narrow they park on the pavements so pedestrians have to walk on the road. Many live within half a mile- I don't understand it at all
We used to walk 6 miles to school everyday and six back the only parking we did was parking our shoes out side till home time .
Same here, weecalf, but when we were at school very few families had cars and because there was little traffic parents felt safe letting us make our own way home
Not six miles though- nearer 2
In our village, most of the schoool parking is a rush job because the mothers are racing off to get to work in time. Walking 6 miles to school when you have to give breakfast, get them dressed, drop kids off then get to work in time is not really an option for many parents these days.

I have to use my car for school pick up but would never dream of blocking a driveway. Good answer Whiskey but my grandson would never find me as I stop in the car and he knows I am on that 1 street.
Rockyracoon I have seen that happen time and time again

I used to live in Scotland as a child and that is many many years ago and I have trudged through snow blizzards no parents took us there and back. Used to look forward to the open fire that greeted us at school in the morning. Stood around that for assembly.
My Father lived almost opposite a primary school and because of his frailty didn't get out very often. This was considered a good enough reason for a selfish parent, waiting for his child, to actually park on his drive. When My Father complained, he was told it was his fault for buying a house near a school. My Father explained that the school wasn't even there when he bought the house and that was still no excuse for parking on his drive, the parent replied"my child's safety is more important ". He quickly changed his mind when my Brother clamped his car a couple of times .
I don't remember this problem when I went to school in the 60's and 70's. Everyone went to the nearest local school and either walked or went on the bus. The situation now has become ridiculous, driving children miles across town to school when there is one on their doorstep.
Trouble is Dave, not everyone gets into their nearest school anymore, choice is limited when it comes to school places these days.
My lot all walk to school, so i don't need to worry too much. I don't think it's fair to park across someone's drive, even for a couple of minutes. They might need to get out in a hurry. I think clamping the car there would make things worse, not better!
