Today is the 100th year since the Titanic went down. Im sure prayers all over the country will be going out today for those who were lost

It must have been really terrifying for all those who knew they were going to die as there was no way out. My prayers go out to all those who perished

+ RIP

True, I will endorse that.

However, this last week also saw the 100th of a far more important organisation with far more deaths than the Titanic - and that was the Royal Flying Corps that grew into the RAF.

To me therefore, while respecting the Titanic victims, things have been way too unbalanced over this disaster.
Yes DT but their deaths were over a longer period of time - this was a shocking disaster because it was never supposed to happen - the ship was supposed to be safe!

I don't unconsider it unbalance at all - it is one of lifes great stories.
It must have been terrible yes but I don't understand why this particular tragedy is so elevated above others. Large numbers have died in many other circumstances - a whole plane load from Brazil to Paris just as an example a couple of years back with no explanation, why won't we be remembering them in 100 years time?
It was a disaster........the world has been full of disasters and as disasters go, this was not a major one.

No, I shall not be praying for them OR thinking about them as i didn't know anyone involved.

Life goes on and death or tragedy is just around the corner for all of us.
Wasn't there over 1,200 people on that 'unsinkable' ship? They were blasé about safety because they thought it was unsinkable.
2014 will mark the 100th anniversary of the start of an event in history of infinitely greater global importance than the loss of a single ship. Those who are presently wringing their hands and bemoaning the 'huge' loss of life are encouraged to get some perspective...
Ditto Sqad!

A disaster yes but as disasters go...... greater ones have been forgotten. its all brought to everybodies attention because of a film glorifying it all to make £millions of profit.
And in 2014 people will be posting about that, I presume.
Going completely off the subject - when I was doing my O level English, there was a choice of words to choose from to write an essay on. These were single words and were all dramatic, including "Sinking!" and "Fire!" etc.
One of my friends seized on the word "Sinking!" and wrote his essay about a day in the life of a plumber.
The sinking of the Titanic also made the seas safer for all those that use it today!

Why are we still remembering the anniversary of Hillsborough?
I don`t see why greater events (wars etc) should invalidate the tragedy of the Titanic. The 100 year anniversary is big news here and in America because the ship was travelling between the two. I`m not sure how big news the anniversary is in other parts of the world. Lloyds Underwriters obviously think the event was pretty important. They`ve got a glass case with the losses book on display which is open at the page where they recorded the loss of the Titanic. Unfortunately, someone wrote down the wrong coordinates.
yes I've got that sinking feeling......but its for the original poster here........they simply posted as a mark of respect about the Titanic disaster.......and all people say "yes but don't forget"......"ahh but there's a bigger event"..........Jesus, some people......we know there has been other disasters, we know there has been other events.........get off your high horses!!!!!!........if you friend said "i'm a bit sad, my mum died"........"Ah yes, but lets not forget Mrs bloggs and many others have died as well".........what a bunch!!!!
marden......well you have certainly got that off your chest.........you have to feel better now ;-)
Yep, i have that sinking feeling, we play Man U this afternoon.
well here is someone who cant see or doesn't understand perspective. None of us have condemned the commemoration and marking of the event - rather that a lot of it is overblown and commercial hype. As to the Hillsborough remark which is pure crass, the difference with the Titanic is that for Liverpool families (and including many Evertonians), they are still marking the passing of children, fathers, mothers, relatives and friends, many of which would be alive today. In the Titanic's case, we are at best well into the grandchildren generation.
and thanks, sqad, for your medical diagnosis on marden!
The principle is the same whether its a liner or a sinking trawler. Both are tragedy for someone.
Which is why we work hard to prevent trouble.
marden40 :))
I won't be praying as I don't pray but as disasters go it was a very sad one and will be remembered as it w supposesd to be "unsinkable".

My thoughts today, however, will be with the Italian footballers family who have lost their son. Unbelievable and so sad.
Unlike Governments who plan to cut the Coastguard services
