My 6 week old Kindle has conked. The top half of the screen is plain grey.

On the Amazon website, this is on their ready made list of problems.

They offered a replacement straightaway, but are giving me a 100% refund when I said I thought this may be a recurring problem with this model.

Has anyone had this problem with this or the older model?

No, I have an original and my wife has a current model, never had anything like that ...
...think I'll stick to books from the library, thanks.
Never
I've had no real problems with my Kindle. I have the new version of the 3G model. The only time it 'crashed' was when my daughter was trying to view Facebook on it and it froze, turning it off and on again sorted it out.
There have been no reports of anything that can be considered a common fault with any kindle that I know of. if there was it would be all over the tech blogs.
My Sony e book readers fine :)

Hi Chuck, I've just googled kindle screen problem and found a number of identical problems. Seems to be the newer model. Amazon Kindle support didn't sound at all surprised when I spoke to them...
