What is the difference between assault, battery, Grievous Bodily Harm, and Actual Bodily harm?

If the victim has been actually touched by the person committing the crime, then battery has occurred. If the victim has not actually been touched, but only threatened, then the crime is considered to be assault.

ABH includes any hurt or injury calculated to interfere with the health or comfort of the victim but not amounting to Grievous Bodily Harm.

GBH is the loss of a distinct part or organ of the body OR serious disfigurement OR any bodily injury of such a nature tthat, if left untreated, would endager or be likely to endanger life or cause or be likely to cause permanent injury to health.
