If the hybrid poplar trees to which you are referring are similar to the hybrids developed here in the U.S., I can attest that they are quite hardy and grow rapidly.  Here in the western U.S. at high altitudes where the rainfall averages 16 to 20 inches a year, a tree that was 2 feet high when planted was 10 feet high after the second growing season and within 3 years was about 18 to 20 feet tall.  They are used often for decorative trees around homes.  They last about 15 years and then begin dying back.  At that time they are perhaps 20 to 25 feet tall and the crown is probably 10 to 15 feet in diameter.  They require thorough watering in the first growing season.  We have about 20 of them here on the ranch... Good luck if you use them...

Thanks for your response.  I need a tree that will not take ten years to grow, so maybe this is what I'm looking for.  I only wish is was not so short lived.
