hands seizing up

Why do my hands sometimes 'seize up' what I am doing anything fairly intricate? This ranges from peeling veg to dusting. It doesn't happen all the time but I am about to start in a shop where I will be doing displays of crockery, china etc and I don't want it to happen then! The 'seize' doesn't last long and I just have to flex my fingers to get rid of it but I would like to know why it happens and what I can do to stop it. I am 44 so don't think it is arthritis, at least I hope not! Any ideas? Many thanks.

I was sewing earlier and this happened - I just put it down to cramp
karen is almost certainly correct, cramp due to unaccustomed muscular activity....sewing, etc.

It is almost always innocuous, but if it continues or get´s worse, then see you GP.
Same here, methinks RSS or diet ? Since am not a 'bunny-grazer' I lack vitamins/minerals & supplement with tablets, Sanatogen 50+; solves my probs.
wishing you better Wheaten! I hope my tingling hand, arm, and shoulder pain turns out no worse that cramp! Must admit that sitting at the p.c. doesnt help it at all x
Do you mean just go stiff/dead or as in cramp/spasm up?

I get stiffness and problems doing certain things I used to, drives me mad! Have noticed it particularly with things like knitting/crochet, beating cake mixture, rockclimbing etc... I put it down to my arthritis though flexing doesn't really help much.

Thanks, all.
Yes, hopefully just cramp as I also get leg and foot cramps. I think I have poor circulation as I am always cold. Haven't dropped anything yet in the shop but if I do I'll just say 'a bad boy did it and ran away'!
wheaten,
Do you mean by seize up, your fingers just seem to lock- up/stick and you cant get them to move for a few seconds, if so I have the same and its cramp.
