Does anybody know when its the best time to plant tomatoes?

I am looking into growing organic tomatoes this suumer so would like to know when its the best time to plant them.

april under glass, may outdoors when the risk of frost has passed.....you might still find some hanging basket ones in your local garden centre but they wont have been grown organically

I will have to try and find some decent garden centres in birmingham.
