no, some plants wont tolerate it for long, especially if there is little soil in the pot and it dries out quickly or the nutrition in the soil is all gone but some plants (eg Agapanthus and Clivia) need to be tight in the pot before they give their best
What plant is it ? If you need to repot, do it, you don't want to lose it.
