My mums orchid has grown two leaves on the end of a flower stem. Also it is growing what looks like a couple of roots behind the two leaves. Anyone know anything about orchids, as I don't know what to do with it?

do you know which type of orchid it is?
Most orchids produce roots below the leaves and if a root like stem appears from between the leaves it is normally a new flowering shoot and should be turned to it upright.

In their native habitats orchids usually grow on trees. They put out many aerial roots to gather moisture from the air & like humidity. Sometimes potted ones have roots hanging over the edge & appreciate regular misting with tepid rain water (or cooled boiled water). You can usually tell which are flower stems as they are dk green whereas roots are light grey/brownish.
