5. Fife??!!
5 Emsworth ? (m being the 13th letter of the alphabet)
2. Walthamstow is E17 which is also a band (sounds)?
Question Author
Hi dustybun. Not quite sure where Fife comes in to this clue other than it sounds like five!
I agree, Aberdeen Angus bull looks good for 3
Question Author
Hi bibblebub. Emsworth sounds good - my only reservation being that all the other answers so far are large places and I had to look up Emsworth on the map!
Hi gen2.Not sure about Walthamstow-interesting idea but it seems almost too tenuous. Thanks though
1 something to do with Tower? Tower Hamlets is the only one that comes to mind
Question Author
Hi bibblebub. Yes I was working on the towing aspect and wondered about Towcester but there is no word towster as a rescue truck!
Question Author
Hi bibblebub. Thanks to your idea with Emsworth I now see that the answer for no.2 is Kew (17th letter of alphabet). So think I only need No.1 and No.4
Yes ~ sorry maxymax, my Fife was also a bit tenuous. I just totalled all the letters and came up with five.
I do think your Aberdeen Angus is right AND I think Towcester is right and that's why they've used the word 'maybe'. Anyway, good luck with quiz. :0)
Question Author
Hi Dusty. Yes fairly happy with Aberdeen but think Towcester is very iffy. There is a place in Cornwall called Towednack but not happy with that either!!
it would be interesting to know maxymax. Perhaps if you get the answers you could put them in this thread for us. I keep thinking that a dragster is a car used for drag racing so if it breaks down . . . . ? play on drag and tow? Anyway, would love to know and it's so much easier to get back to old threads now with the new site! :0)
Question Author
Hi Dusty.. Unfortunately the answers will not be officially published for a year!! Imagine a year of sleepless nights unless any of my friends or anyone on this site comes up with the answers! Also not sure how the "threads"on the new site works! Am a bit of a novice to such things. Regards.
Hi maxymax ~ at the top left of the page where it has your name you will see a 'My Profile' link. Click on there and on the next page click on either 'My Questions' or 'Q's I've Answered' (usually the better option). All the threads come up on the screen in reverse date order. With the new site now I can get back to the first thread I was involved in five years ago in about half a minute. It really is easier than you think. By the way, I'm not being a clever clogs ~ there are many things on this site I haven't a clue about but that isn't one of them!! :0)
Question Author
Hi Dusty. Think I was probably there actually - I just had not heard them referred to threads before. As soon as I get any possible answer for these outstanding 2 questions I will post them on this "thread!!" Regards
Question Author
Hi Dusty. I have had Towyn suggested for No.1. It was not in my Road Atlas, but I found it in my wife's. My only problem is that all the other answers are fairly large places. I have had Hitchin suggested for No.4 which is the only suggestion I have had so far. Sounds quite good though - what do you think?
sorry maxymax, I can't see why Hitchin would be for No 4. It sounds more like No 1 to me although I still think if a dragster breaks down they send out a truck to tow it in, hence Tow(ce)ster. It might be worth your while posting the question again on a weekday, early eveningish ~ might get a different set of brains out there willing to help! :0)
forgot to say ~ Towyn in Wales is on my map and the quiz title does say towns & places in The British Isles without specifying size in any way. My heart is still more with Towcester!
Question Author
Hi Dusty. Yes I am slightly favouring Towcester, but I will take your advice re posting it again early evening. I had to think twice before realising the significance of Hitchin for No.4. In a boxing match the tatget is to Hit the Chin!! I certainly think it is worth considering don't you?
Hit Chin! Wow! being a pacifist (!!) maxymax I would never have thought of that but certainly sounds good to me! :0)
