Patchworking an old sofa - info needed

Hi everyone - I've got an old sofa that's seen better days, but the basic sofa is sound. I can't afford to replace it and thought I'd like to have a go at patchworking it myself to brighten it up. I just can't seem to find any web info or blogs that offer any demos or advice. Every search ends up at Squint furnishings, a company that sells patchwork furniture for squillions of pounds. Any help would be very gratefully received.
