Has anyone got one/Using one ? if so are they good, any tips pls ?

I bought my halogen as there are 3 of us that all seem to end up eating at different times.The general rule i have worked out is best to apply is to knock about 10-15 degrees off the recommended cooking temp, and reduce cooking time by about a third. Things like potato rosti and hash browns take about 12-15 mins depending on type and how browned you like them, for example i cooked fish fingers and hash browns together for my daughter the other night in about 15 mins, a medium jacket potato takes about and hour to hour and 15, I brush it with a little bit of oil first to get a crispier skin and cook on about 200. I find cheese on toast is better done on the lower rack ( but that may of just been a fluke the first time and i have convinced myself of this lol ) and only takes a few mins. Basically anything you would put in your big oven, you can do in the halogen, just quicker and at lower temp. sausages bacon and burgers come out lovely . We rarely eat ready meals so i have not tried doing them, but they are supposed to be fine done in it.I have had mine about 3 months and have only used my big oven once since and that was because i wanted to go out and set the timer to come on later. I bought one and, when it arrived, a plastic base-part was broken. All I really had to do was send back that piece weighing a few ounces, but no...I had to repack the whole thing and send it. The replacement arrived in due course and I was really beginning to enjoy using it. I baked bread, cooked a lamb joint, breakfasts and all sorts of things successfully. Then one day, after just a couple of weeks, I switched it on and the halogen bulb blew! Of course, it is inaccessible for ordinary punters, so I clearly had to send the whole thing back again.
It was at that point I decided that the device was poorly presented and clearly unreliable. Surely, if a device depends utterly on something as inherently fragile as a glass bulb, it should be constructed so as to make replacement simple. But no. Consequently, I asked for and got my money back.

So, yes, they're good...when they work...but a darned disaster when they don't. Give it a go, but don't be too surprised if it turns out to be a nine-day wonder for you.

mny tks to both, I have opened mine and it looks quite scary ! just needed some reassureance, bought it in Asda from the JML stand !

Final little bit of advice...don't throw the box and packaging in your recycling bin just yet, Dee Sa! I truly hope you never need it, but...
I bought one a few months ago I don't need to use my big oven now unless the family are here for dinner. Chicken breasts are cooked to perfection. Now believe it or not my daughter has had her xmas present and you can guess what . She was going mad for one and with her not home from work some nights till 5 30ish it don't take long to do a meal .It is just a matter of timing things. There is good and bad in all things .Buy a tv or washer ect it still has a chance of breaking down when you not had it long.
Some words seem to be missed .That should read chicken breast come out succulent not dried up. Best buy from argos or local store then easily exchanged if anything goes wrong. I see asda has got them now.
