Laying paving slabs onto gravel?

We recently got our bushes dug up from the garden and gravel put down instead. There was a piece of plastic stuff laid below the gravel to stop weeds. I was thinking of getting a few paving slabs and just sitting them onto the gravel so that they can be lifted back up easily enough for a seat or a barbecue. But would that damage the plastic stuff or would it be ok?

Totally agree with Dennis. We raised some slabs to put down some plastic weed barrier, but had to re-lay the slabs as were originally placed. A decent quality stuff should be alright, but why bother with the slabs in your case? You can stand a seat or barbecue straight onto gravel, and it allows better water drainage.
