How much would an average kitchen cost in real wood and a granite top?
We have just had dream doors quote us 7 grand for changing all the doors and work surfaces, this figure is without appliances. Am I out of touch or is this expensive?

Hi Ganesh,

I think 7k for just doors and work top is expensive. I designed my kitchens, (I've moved twice and used the same woodworker) had them made from solid wood, not just doors, whole units to spec, all appliances (Smeg, Bosch and Neff) and worktop and bought them in at between 5-8k before builders fees.

Where r u in the UK? I can give you a fantastic kitchen builder in Stoke who makes units to your spec and size from Oak or Pine.

He will deliver too!!!

I'd source the granite work tops myself if I was you, and the apliances. You can barter a good price then.

If you're interested in the speaking to the guy in Stoke I'll give you his name :)

Many thanks but no, I live in Bath, and I will get a couple more quotes. We were getting it in real ash and the best granite and It does include labour as well,by the way.
I thought it was a bit pricey,however.

7k sounds expensive to me however i guess it depends how big your kitchen is.

My kitchen was replaced with new carcasses and doors from B&Q for under 750 (it was in the sale though) with an african black granite worktop for 2k (approx 6 meters)

i got my worktop from worktops.org, you can get an online quote on their website - www.worktops.org/quote_request.asp - if nothing else, their price can act as a yard stick, or negotiating tool if you are still searching for a new kitchen.

Hope this helps.
