firstly i have nothing at all against smokers - if they want to smoke let 'em BUT i have this afternoon come back from a meeting with a client who wants to book me in a few weeks for a gig to celebrate her 21st - when i went in to the house there was ash all over the carpet and i mean loads of it , and a smell like the place has NEVER had fresh air in it, and then the client, her mum, dad and boyfriend all lit up at the same time and it was unbearable - i went showered from this morning and loads of "smellies" on me - pleasant! you know -came out smelling like a f***** chimney pot! - just had another shower not long ago and change of threads!! occupational hazard or nuisance?
any of you guys had the same thing happen? does it bother you? do you smoke and it still bothers you?

Ian....too bl00dy right it bothers me........it is a filthy habit for a variety of reasons.
I don't smoke and it bothers me a lot. Trouble is, smokers obviously cannot smell it...if they did, they would surely be put off.
If it's your business, though, there's not a lot you can do but shower, wash your clothess or take them to the cleaners/

much prefer when clients agree to meet in hotel bars/pubs/cafe's etc but you DO get the "royle family" types who are in ALL the time and don't wanna move from their couches - TV was on as well at full blast!! during the meeting - i had to suggest to turn it down so we can hear each other!! - you have to go to discuss music preferences, arrange times, get a deposit etc, so that is what STINKS!!

don't get me wrong - i'm grateful they called me for the gig, but they can make an effort just for 15 minutes, can't they?
yes it bothers me but when I used to smoke I couldnt smell how bad it was, a friend of mine is a 40-60 a day smoker, his house stinks really bad and his walls and netting are yellow, he is not really aware of it which is a shame.
My auntie recently had the whole of the downstairs of her house redecorated. She now only smokes in her bedroom which is, imo, disgusting. She never airs the place and so I avoid going round to her house, because I just feel sick when I walk in there. I am a smoker and so is my mother, but my mum always airs the house and we are only ever allowed to smoke in the conservatory with the door to the back garden open. I rarely smell smoke on my own clothes, but then I never smoke in the daytime, and sometimes go a week or two without a ciggie.
My best friend of over 50 years smoked most of her adult life until two years ago. Up until then, everything which came out of her house smelled of smoke and couldn't be kept/used.
She came to visit me in hospital once and brought my two favourite 'eats' and I had to bin them because of the smell.
I could never have told her but I am so glad she gave up both for her health's sake and also her friends'.
I'd have to change every time I came home if I had smoke on my clothes. Can't stand it.
I never used to be able to smell it on myself either nomercy, but plenty of people told me otherwise :/

I never used to think the smell in the house was that bad because I used to air the place but it was, you could still smell the stale tobacco or so people mentioned, when I packed up I noticed it at my mom and dads house, my dad only smokes in the back garden, yet you pick up anything in the house and you can smell tobacco on it

I can't, as an ex smoker, therefore be too sanctimonious. However, it's many years since I binned the dreaded weed and I do notice how fag smoke does permeate your hair, clothes etc when you've been in such an atmosphere.

It also gets down your gullet and you find yourself coughing like a walrus for ages afterwards.

And some people still object to it being banned in public places !

Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but perhaps you could in future enquire with them before meeting potential clients whether you're likely to be subjected to the need for a lung transplant?

It'd be a reasonable request and all but the most ignorant of people would see it that way.
unclean...unclean...cough...cough....
I can't stand the smell of smoke - I don't think smokers realise how bad their clothes, hair. etc smell.

I was in the post office queue on Friday, the woman behind me absolutely reeked of smoke, to the point it made me feel physically sick. The trouble is once you have that smell up your nose, it seems to stay with you all day - yuk yuk yuk !!

don't think you will ian - my tendency is towards rollups with a dash of spice.....
Smoking does have a good side , recently i had to visit the toilets at Birmingham New Street Station.
Someone must have been having a dump, I had to have the quickest pee possible and get out of there. On leaving i nearly was sick .
Now if half a dozen smokers had been in there i would not have noticed the stink.
After that visit i try to avoid any public toilets
