my 5 year old fig is healthy but yields less than 10 fruits each summer despite there being at least 100 fruits there now in October up tp the size of wallnuts. Should I take these off now? Other ideas? I live in Southern England and there are winter frosts

Those are the the immature fruits for next year so don't remove any. Some will be lost during bad weather and some will be discarded by the tree if too many are left.

There are lots of reasons for not fruiting well, not enough sun, too much growth because the roots aren't restricted enough, not enough water if they are restricted, not sheltered enough. Does anything sound right?

I should say I've seen them grown in open ground and they fruit very well but they do a lot of growing and take up a lot of space before they do
