I have a portable gas heater which doesn't stay on when you release the regulator dial/switch.

The pilot won't light either.

If I hold the dial down, I can light it with a lighter, but as soon as I release it, the flame goes out.

Any ideas?

presuming they operate the same way as a conventional gas fire its going to be a faulty thermocouple, gas valve or blocked pilot.
