Why doesn't my washing machine take the conditioner at the end of the cycle? I wash the little plastic compartment through after every wash but the conditioner is still there at the end and my wash doesn't smell of anything nice !

OK, now don't take this the wrong way...but are you putting the conditioner in the right compartment?
I ask this as it took me over two years (I kid you not!) to realise what I was putting the conditioner gloop in was actually the pre-wash section of the drawer. I couldn't figure out why- like you- my washing was never soft or didn't smell of the conditioner.

Hi BOO, yes, I am sure I am, it is the middle compartment and always used to work perfectly. It started going through only every 'other' wash, now it doesn't go through at all. I can't see a blockage anywhere in the compartment, as I say, I keep washing it through. It is so annoying. I have to put the washing back in the machine and pour conditioner directly into the drum, then put the setting onto rinse and spin. I can't understand how it doesn't go through, as it is a liquid !

It must be getting water into it during the conditioner part of the cycle otherwise it would stop and not advance any further through the program
Have a close look at the machine on the conditioner part of the cycle, pull the drawer out a little and see if there is actually any water coming through... and if so is it going into the correct compartment in the drawer. if it's not then remove the top of the machine and look on top of the drawer assembly.. they often have a system of plastic valves built into the top of them operated by plastic rods... if these rods slip a little then the machine puts water into the wrong compartment and won't take the conditioner.
They can be a ****** to adjust properly though :)

I use cable ties to clean my jets out a couple of times a year - you'd be shocked at the gunk that comes out.
Cable ties are ideal - the right size, strong enough to do the job, flexible enough to get in to the jets and they won't snap off.
Take the drawer apart, give a thorough wash in hot soapy water, clean the drawer out as far back as you can (I use a bottle brush), then clean the jets in the roof of the drawer

a few years ago I had this problem. when you open the drawer on mine there's a feeder tube that the liquid travels though to reach the machine (like an inverted V shape).. and it was blocked.. duh! it pulled out easily and I unblocked it.. and hey presto, it was fine :o)

Washing machines have a water level sensor that operates on air pressure from a sealed pipe running from the bottom of the outer drum that leads to a pressure operated switch at the top of the machine... when they get to any point in the cycle where the machine is meant to be filling with water they will not advance any further through the cycle until the correct amount of water is in the machine. So if it wasn't letting water in it would simply stop at that stage and wait for ever to fill up.
And there are no safety trips or switches on the drawers on any machine that I ever looked at when I was a washing machine Engineer for 2 years... so yes you can pull the drawer out a little and look to see if the water is being directed into the correct compartment.
