You are probably thinking of the Golden Pheasant. There are a few living wild in Britain, I know six that nave been living loosely together for years. BTW the females look exactly like ordinary hen pheasants
Could it be the Lady Amherst's Pheasant?: http://www.cogsci.indiana.edu/farg/harry/bio/zoo/amherst.htm
There are dozens, but not too many large ones -- those already mentioned are smaller or similar to the "common" pheasant. Some possibilities: Tragopan Argus pheasant Peafowl I'd say the last is the most likely, if it's a quiz clue, or a derivative (peahen etc). Can't name the male, of course...
Just as easily as my suggestion SteveD. They also cross which gives some intersting colours
