This may look like a stupid question, but indulge me, please. Can you wash feather pillows? And if so, what's the best way to do it?

Not advisable to wash them I'm afraid to say!. If it's dust mite you're trying to get rid of, try putting them in the freezer compartment overnight...... this works a treat! If, on the other hand, if it's staining, then the only option would be to unpick a seam, empty out the feathers and wash the casings only. If I were you though I'd buy new ones as they seem to be cheaper to buy these days. Hope this helps!

Thanks Sag,

It's that they're getting a bit grubby and beginning to smell a bit, if truth be told. I figured I'd get new ones, but I'm trying to reduce the amount of stuff I throw away. I'd rather recycle/refurbish than bin.
you can wash feather pillows and tumble dry them. Check the label on them for washing instructions but most can be done in this way without any problem.
If you put them in a large carrot net that any greengrocer will give you and then do as Hawkwood advises you will do a better wash and dry, and use soap flakes if poss.
One day Shylock73 you will get my name right.

Not sure why you need a carrot bag to wash a pillow - very odd!!
Buy new zip close ticking cases, mine were from Dunelm, carefully transfer your feathers into the new case and zip up. Throw old case away. If you get 2 zip cases per pillow you can launder every few weeks/months. Remember to zip up the empty dirty case before you wash it.
To Hawkwalk, Sorry, can`t read very well sometimes, but the reason we use a carrot bag is to let the soap flakes permutate through the feathers to clean, dry, and soften better. A tip my old granny told me.
