Clematis

We have planted Clematis in a narrow border and whilst the centre growth has been satisfactory the laterals, which we have tried to train along wires, have withered and died. We wonder why this might be.

This is possibly clematis wilt. Did you plant the clematis deep enough. i.e the depth of the pot and that depth again . Cover the ground round the plant with stones to keep them in the shade and water well
