basically its software that lets you run virtual machines (your computer pretends to be more than one computer) it is mainly used to run multiple operating systems on a single machine simultaneously with VMware workstation. It is frequently used by software development houses in order to ensure compatibility between various operating systems without the need for multiple machines per user.

but as squarebear says its a computer software company.
