A garden boundry is where one garden ends and the other begins, so technically there is nothing to own.
You or your neighbour need to consult your house deeds. When you bought the house you would have had a map of the property marked to show which bits are yours. If you still have a mortgage you will, unfortunately probably have to pay your mortgage lender a fee to see the deeds as they keep them until you have fully paid for the property.
Unless otherwise stated on your deeds you are usually responsible for the left hand side and the end boundaries of your property.
