looking to buy a travel alarm clock,have seen some advertised as LCD what does that mean ?

Liquid Crystal Display. Like a digital watch, usually black numbers on a greyish background.

thanks for that sddsddean,would you be able to see the time in the dark?
No, you need to get one with a backlight. Normally you press a button and the light comes on for about 5 secs so you can read the time.

If you want to spend I little extra if you get a 'radio controlled' clock it means it always tells the time correctly even when then clocks go forward/back or you have to put new batteries in! It picks up the time from radio signal with a little aerial built into the clock.

The only problem I get with these modern LCD travel clocks in general, is that with all the buttons on the surface of the clock when I put it in my suitcase all the buttons just get pressed in and out and the clock can have the time changed and the alarm time changed accidentally. To stop this I have to take the batteries out. They often don't have an on/off switch!
