Can any one tell me the correct length of covex pipe(I think thats right)to put up the chimney when fitting a wood burning or multifuel fire. We live in a singe storey cottage and have done the smoke test ie It went straight up the chimney and no fumes into next door. Ive heard it only has to be a few metres in length but others say it has to be right the way to the top of the chimney.Any tips appreciated Thanks Ps How do you clean it and how often ?

I was tempted to fit a full length flue liner when I installed mine but seeing as the chimney itself is in sound condition I didn`t bother, I just used a metre length of cast iron pipe from the top of the wood burner. Generally in winter time clean it out about once a fortnight but always make sure I leave a decent layer of ash in the tray underneath the grate.

Ooops I meant how often would I have to have the pipe cleaned and the chimney.
I have both the open coal fire and the woodburners chimney cleaned twice a year
