My chimney breast was leaking water down my bathroom wall. The leak has been fixed but I'm left with no money and brown stained plaster. Is there a cheap and easy way of covering it up without getting a decorator in. By the way I've had very little experience with DIY.

What do you mean ''Brown stained plaster''?

How is the rest of your bathroom decorated firstly
International Paints make a stain block paint or spray, when it dries just paint with emulsion. You can buy it in B&Q and Homebase.
Or you can you an undercoat paint {white if you like} as a base coat first, it will stop any such water stain showing through, then Emulsion after if thats what your going to do.

Everyone normally has some sort of undercoat paint lying about in the garage, so it works out very cheap
Get a kitchen and bathroom paint to withstand the steam!
