cleaning paint residue from leaded windows

We appear to have some sort of paint residue on the lead of our new windows.

How can I remove this withought damaging the lead.

Lead wont be harmed by the likes of paint thinners/Turps - the only thing that would harm it is a blow torch.
is it white? the residue? the lead is probably weeping, you can coat it to stop it from doin that
