Hi. I have some IKEA furniture but I'm a bit fed up with its pine look. Is it possible to stain IKEA furniture and has anyone done so? It has a sort of treated/waxed effect so I'm not sure it'll work but I thought I'd check here first in case I do something I may well regret.

I have the same problem. I'd like to apply a mahogany stain, but it's as though the original finish is waxy.

Can't wait for an answer!
If it's solid wood that has been waxed you should be able to rub it back to the bare wood and then stain it. If it has a waxed veneer or some kind of plasticated finish,- no chance!
We bought a pine coffee table from IKEA as I wanted one with deep drawers. My husband stained the table mahogany,no problems at all then he took of the black knobs and replaced them with brass handles. It matches our mahogany corner cupboards perfectly.
