I have a little gaget which looks just like a small tennis racket but where the strings are is a wire mesh. Touch the fly with it, one spark and it's finshed. It runs of two AA batteries and cost 2.99 at Godfreys, although I am sure others sell it. Good with wasps, they go off with a real crack if they touch it

Great fun!

thanks dillicaf, sounds great fun, sadly though dont have a godfreys around here, i live in scotland, can you tell me the tech name for it will try online to get it
I have sunflower stickers which I put on my kitchen window. The flies are attracted to them then die - it does mean keep cleaning them off the window sill though! They are made by Vapona so should be readily available.

thanks spuddie, tryed those i have them on my boiler, need to replace them as the flies are doing a dance on them, but the boiler is near the food surfaces, so worried about finding a dead fly in my cuppa lol, its the boiler they like the most cos of the heat, finding taking of the stickers quite difficult
Why not try bead door curtains or fly screens try these Web pages

if they cant get bin you dont need to kill them.
Or i have found that garlic is a good fly repellant
Good luck

Hi puddicat,

Saw another one today in a different shop, still 2.99.

It's called "GOTCHA! BUG ZAPPER"

I think the shopkeeper was getting a bit suspicious of me copying all the details down. Still, he let me leave, probably glad to see me go.

I hope this helps. I don't know what Scottish flies are like but here in Norfolk they are BIG.
Good hunting.

dilli you are a star thank you will give them a ring many thanks
I don't see the problem with your cat and old-fashioned fly papers - the cat's not going to eat them is it? Anyway, what about an olf-fashioned hand-held fly-swat - you can get rid of pent-up energy at the same time as killing the flies.
