what side is my fences left or right its my mother house im regarding to as her neighbour is getting on my nevers as i have all ways believed the left hand side is hers can anyone help please

you will have to check your deeds. if you own any boundary their is usually a " T " on your side of the boundary .
Yes I agree with the above. Rules vary from district to district. Mostly they are jointly owned and therefore jointly maintained which never works out well at all once there is a dispute.
As a rule of thumb the owner of the fence should have the posts on their own ground and the "good" side of the fence facing outwards.

Also nails should always be driven "home" ie. the naiheads should always be visible to the non owner of the fence.
It is quite obvious that if YOU erect a fence, you are going to have the `ugly` side facing the other person. This if purely for the benefit of the person paying for the fence - it does not have any further bearing. I one had a house that had SIX neighboring properties so I looked into this aspect and erected a fence on my land.
