What does the "B" and the "Q" stand for in the DIY chain?

Check the B & Q website - it tells you there. Barnes and quayle if I remember rightly (which I might not!)

Close, but according to their site it's:

"B&Q was founded by Richard Block and David Quayle and the first store opened in Portswood, Southampton".
